Nursing, B.Sc.

Study with a monthly salary – made possible by Germany's nursing law!

The study program aligns with Germany's nursing laws to grant graduated nurses extended authorization for independent practice of healthcare services.

The program follows a dual approach: theoretical classes and skills lab practice provided by Hof University take place in turn with practical work - paid internships - with a hospital or care facility. To apply to the bachelor's program, you need a work/apprenticeship contract with a healthcare provider (see the list at the bottom of the page).

The nursing profession in German-speaking countries is currently undergoing major change:

  • Increasingly complex care situations due to demographic developments
  • Growing numbers of chronic diseases, multimorbidity, and lifestyle-related illnesses among adults and children
  • Nursing is still largely a vocational profession and only marginally academicized – even though a higher level of professionalization has been shown to improve healthcare quality (see, for example, research by Linda Aiken)
  • At last, nursing students are now receiving a training allowance!

Continuous scientific advancement of nursing is therefore essential.

And this is where you come in:

  • You will develop analytical and reflective skills that enable innovative approaches to current challenges in nursing.
  • You will gain access to the latest scientific insights – and learn how to find and interpret them to make the right decisions in complex situations.
  • You will also expand your authorization to independently practice healthcare services.

Our goal is to empower you, as a nursing professional with a Bachelor of Science, to work within skill and grade mix concepts – applying your qualifications where they have the greatest impact.

With our extensive expertise, we will prepare you to become a reflective practitioner in patient care.

With this Bachelor's program…

  • You receive a monthly salary from your employer!
  • You gain the skills to provide care to patients in a targeted way and based on the latest scientific insights.
  • Most of your practical training takes place at your employer, while still giving you insight into other areas and sectors.
  • We offer additional modules with innovative approaches to current challenges, e.g., in digitalization and intercultural nursing.
  • You engage with other healthcare professions through interprofessional dialogue.
  • You receive excellent preparation for professional practice: in our Skills Lab (simulation environments), you can practice, make mistakes, and learn without risking patient safety.

In addition, you benefit from…

  • Direct and easy access to your professors
  • A modern and innovative teaching approach
  • Valuable professional experience gained during your practical placements

Theoretical and practical study phases alternate. Each semester includes both components.

In Germany, there is a high demand for qualified nursing professionals. Even today, many positions remain unfilled due to a shortage of staff. This skills gap is expected to grow in the future due to demographic changes. A job in Germany is therefore guaranteed!

Furthermore, there are numerous laws supporting this path – obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing – both financially and professionally, such as the Nursing Competence Act and the Nursing Studies Strengthening Act.

Research shows that nursing teams need to be composed of professionals with different educational backgrounds and levels of experience to ensure the best possible patient care. Currently, this is only partially implemented, but efforts are underway to expand it.

After graduation, you will receive professional authorization as a Bachelor-level nursing professional.

You will…

  • Take responsibility for evidence-based nursing processes in hospitals, long-term care, or outpatient care
  • Be qualified for a wide range of nursing specialties
  • Have numerous career opportunities with well-paid positions
  • Acquire essential intercultural skills for working in a multicultural society
  • Gain key insights into digitalization in healthcare
