Public transport system
On this page you get information on your semester ticket and the different types of transport.
As a student of our university, you are entitled to the “Semesterticket”. When using a bus in Hof, you just need to show your valid CampusCard to the bus driver; you do not need to buy an additional ticket.
The bus pass for students is included in their administrative fee and is valid for the duration of the whole semester. You can use all public busses in Hof plus certain busses and trains to our campus in Münchberg.
Make sure your CampusCard is always up-to-date with the current semester, otherwise you cannot use it as a bus ticket.

Trains (Deutsche Bahn)
Generally, there is a good railway infrastructure in Germany. Deutsche Bahn, the main provider for train services, offers three special tickets which are particularly interesting for students:
If you (and your friends) would like to travel just within Bavaria, the Bavaria Ticket is your best choice. With this ticket, you can travel Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 a.m. of the following day and all day on Saturday and Sunday. Keep in mind that you can use only regional trains (e.g. IRE, RE, RB, S, AG).
There are three types of Bavaria Tickets available:
• Bavaria Ticket: standard ticket for up to 5 people
• Bavaria Ticket single: if you travel alone
• Bavaria Ticket night: valid from 18:00 until 6:00 a.m. of the following day for up to 5 people
Please note that one name of the traveling party has to be filled in on the ticket and that it is not allowed to buy or sell used Bavaria Tickets or other group tickets.
Find out more on the website of Deutsche Bahn: www.bahn.de -> switch to English -> offers -> regional tickets
Across the Country Ticket
For traveling cheaply across Germany, the “Quer durchs Land”-Ticket is a good choice. You have to pay a basic amount for the first person. Up to 4 additional people can join you for a comparatively low price. Please note that the number of people on the ticket has to be fixed before the start of the journey and that only regional trains (e.g. IRE, RE, RB, S) can be used. This ticket is available for traveling Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 a.m. of the following day.
The Weekend Ticket is great for traveling over the weekend with your friends. It is valid for up to five people traveling together on Saturdays or Sundays until 3 a.m. of the following day. With this ticket, you can make as many rides as you want within Germany on all regional trains. It is not allowed to take one of the fast trains (ICE, IC, EC) though.
The Weekend Ticket is cheaper if you buy it online or at the ticket machine. If you buy the ticket at the counter, you have to pay a service fee
Deutsche Bahn customer center
Deutsche Bahn recently opened a customer information office in the city center. The staff provide infomation and advice about traveling on regional trains, e.g. ticket prices, train connections and organizing group trips.

Other train companies
In addition to the train service of Deutsche Bahn, there are also other private train companies in Germany. In our region, the “Vogtlandbahn” and “Agilis” offer some interesting connections, e.g. to Munich, Plauen (a city near Hof with further connections to Berlin) or other neighbouring cities like Bayreuth.
The tickets for all Vogtlandbahn and Agilis trains can be bought on the train.
National and international buses
There are also a couple of long-distance bus services with direct connections to Munich, Berlin or some destinations in Eastern Europe.
The closest airports to Hof are Nuremberg and Munich airport. There are regular train connections between these airports and Hof main station.
Car sharing offers a nice opportunity to save money and to meet other students. Some websites for carsharing opportunities are also available in English.
