Prof. Dr. Dirk Reinel studied computer science at Hof University of Applied Sciences. Following his studies, he worked for several years as a research assistant at the local Institute for Information Systems (iisys) in the Analytical Information Systems research group on various research projects.

In 2017, Dirk Reinel founded smartlytic GmbH [Link], an IT company with a focus on software development and data analysis, together with former fellow students. One of the company's best-known projects was created in collaboration with Hof University of Applied Sciences and the German Migraine and Headache Society (DMKG), the "DMKG Headache Register".

In 2018, he successfully completed his doctorate in natural sciences (Dr. rer. nat.) at the Faculty of Business Informatics & Applied Informatics at the University of Bamberg.

For the winter semester 2023/2024, Dirk Reinel received a call to a professorship at Hof University of Applied Sciences.
