Applied Physics

Prof. Dr. Robert Honke studied physics at the University of Regenburg, where he obtained his doctorate at the Institute of Theoretical Physics with ab initio calculations on nonlinear vibrations of free and adsorbate-covered Si(111) surfaces. In his subsequent industrial activities at the Daimler Group, he worked on a wide variety of topics in the field of modeling and simulation related to the automotive and aerospace industries. Prof. Dr. Honke has been a member of the Hof University of Applied Sciences since 2003.  His teaching activities are currently focused on technical (mechanics, CAE) and mathematical basic education, mainly in the field of structural mechanics (Master Composite Materials) and in simulation education (CFD/FEM/Mathematics) in the Master Mechanical Engineering.

Main research topics are currently

  • Construction and materials from biogenic residues
  • Efficient thermal storage, control systems and simulations for building systems
  • Simulations of direct damage caused by lightning strikes on protected CFRP structures
