Teaching

Technical Textiles based on Knitting Technology

Hi, I am Oliver Lottes.
I have been a professor of textile technology at the Hof University of Applied Sciences, Münchberg campus, since 09/2008.

After studying textile technology at the Münchberg department, which at that time still belonged to the Coburg University of Applied Sciences, I worked for many years in a medium-sized textile machinery manufacturing company, 10 years of which as head of application technology.

Today, students learn about the liveliness and diversity of textile technology from me, especially in the subject areas of knitting technology / technical knitted fabrics and textile testing. Did you know that the rotor blades of modern wind turbines are mainly made of textile?

With the help of my lectures and guided processing of scientific projects, at the end of your studies you will be able to develop textiles according to specific requirement profiles.

My field of expertise:

  • Textile Technology

My teaching areas:

  • Knitting technology / Technical knitted fabrics
  • Testing of textile materials
  • Nonwoven technology

My lectures:

  • Textile production processes - sub-area knitting technology
  • Knitting technology (lecture in English)
  • Technical studies of knitted fabrics (lecture in English)
  • Product design - knitting I
  • Product design - knitting II
  • Technical textiles - knitted fabrics (lecture in English)
  • Basics of textile reinforcement structures - part non crimp fabrics
  • Testing of textile materials
  • Nonwoven technology

Learning objectives - Example:

Technical textiles - knitted fabrics

The students realize the correlation between construction, structure and properties of technical knitted fabrics. They have the ability, due to the required properties of the knitted fabric to deduce the production parameters as required. On this basis, the students can develop technical knitted fabrics based on specific requirement profiles to conclude the manufacturing process and finally evaluate them critically.

Interesting for you? Then I look forward to meet you in my lectures!

At our Institute for Materials Science (ifm) at the Hochschule Hof - University of Applied Sciences, I am the head of the research group "Knitting Technology".

Within research projects, the research group successfully supports the industry in the development of new textiles or new processes for the production of knitted fabrics for a wide range of applications.

For example:
