Gender sensitive language

Gender-sensitive language is language that is inclusive of all people, regardless of gender, educational background and other possible reasons for exclusion. Currently, our language is male-dominated and often forgets about women and the other genders.

This guide provides you with practical tips to help you use gender-sensitive language (currently available only in German language).

Sexual harassment

Gender Equality Plan

Hof University of Applied Sciences is committed to equality between women and men, as well as towards non-binary gender classification. Due to the increasingly strong international connections and influences, the intercultural aspects must also be included in the Gender Equality Plan. With the publication of the Gender Equality Plan (GEP), the management of Hof University of Applied Sciences documents that gender equality is an important role within the management tasks. The special responsibility in enforcing this legal mandate is hereby emphasised. However, gender equality is not only a task of the university management, but a cross-sectional task of the entire university and its members. Therefore, the university management calls on all organs and bodies as well as all employees of the university to cooperate in the implementation of the measures and plans outlined below and to support the Women's and Equal Opportunities Representatives in their work.

Further information can be found in the Gender Equality Plan (currently available only in German language).

Career Strategies: Workshops and trainings

The Women's Representatives offer the workshop series Career Strategies to female students at Hof University.

In the workshops, led mainly by specially trained trainers, participants are given a range of tools to help them become more confident in the labour market and in society. From improved body awareness to language, voice, gender-appropriate forms of address, behaviour, clothing, moderation, leadership style and networking, the specific female aspects are addressed. From information and tips on starting a career to overcoming the first hurdles in everyday professional life, including international work, participants will be prepared.

These workshops aim to provide both students and academic staff with the tools to better assert their demands regarding their employment relationship, such as negotiating a salary comparable to that of their male counterparts, negotiating family-friendly working hours and career planning. This is a concrete starting point for tackling the gender pay gap as well as discrimination against women in the context of personnel development.

The workshops for the next semester will be published here soon.
