Composite Materials M.Eng.

This master's program will prepare you for the future, in which technical progress is also based on designing new materials, composites and cycles.

Apply now

You already have a first degree in engineering and would like to acquire in-depth knowledge especially in the field of composite and hybrid materials as well as lightweight construction? Then the Master's program Composite Materials is just right for you.

Composite materials - so-called composites - are a modern class of materials tailored to specific applications where the combination of the positive properties of several base materials is required.

Many current developments in the area of sustainability and energy efficiency require new approaches in the field of materials and composites.

Specifically, graduates of the program will acquire the following skills, among others:

  • Competencies in the assessment and development of composites
  • Competencies in the field of technical fibers
  • Advanced knowledge in the field of surfaces and materials
  • Know how for problem solving and implementation in products of various industries

In the Master's program in Composite Materials, you will acquire professional competencies in the areas of:

  • Materials and properties
  • Composite structures
  • Surfaces and coatings
  • Technical fibers

as well as knowledge of the use and development of composite structures.

Semester 1:

  • Fundamentals of composites
  • Chemistry of composites
  • Mechanics of composites
  • Textile reinforcement structures
  • Characterization and testing of composites

Semester 2:

  • Composites with ceramic or metallic matrix (CMC, MMC and CCC)
  • Modern coating processes
  • PMCs (Polymer Matrix Composites)
  • Elective modules

Semester 3:

Master's thesis

Despite its focus on composites, the program is broadly based, prepares students for jobs in many areas and therefore offers very good prospects.

Our graduates work in research and development, production, quality assurance, academic institutions and research institutes - including the possibility of doctoral studies - , in technical marketing and in other areas. These are located in a wide variety of industries.
