Improved materials and processing techniques are usually the basis of innovation. Apart from a profound knowledge of the materials the development of new products necessitates also an understanding of the processes involved. Today's continuing trend of "faster, better, cheaper" requires the ability to adapt to rapid changes to be able to respond to the demands of industry and the market by appropriate concepts and solutions.
The study of Materials Engineering provides the necessary prerequisites: The basis of the education is a profound basic knowledge of materials and their respective production and processing technologies, as well as the scientific and technological basics which is acquired during the first two years of study. The third year provides a deeper expertise, especially in the fields of plastics technology and surface coating. Soft skill modules round up the profile.
Special attention is paid to the transformation of this knowledge into practical application. Through the latest equipment and technology of our labs and projects and collaboration with industry Hof University forms Materials Engineers who convince by their expertise and who can cope with the challenges of the economy.
Typical occupational fields for graduates of this course of studies are R&D, quality management, the management of materials intensive projects as well as consultancy and customer service. Thus there is a wide range of occupational chances in the production and service sectors.
The students are granted the possibility to enhance their linguistic skills on a voluntary basis or to pass a semester abroad to be able to cope with the demands of globalisation. A dual study program comprising the concurrent apprenticeship as "Verfahrensmechaniker für Kunststoff- und Kautschuktechnik" (Technician for processing plastics and rubber), as "Industriemechaniker" or "Werkstoffprüfer" is possible as well.
As a further alternative for the professional development we offer a the Master course "Verbundwerkstoffe" (Composite Materials). This course of study provides a higher level of qualification to persons who on the one hand want to acquire specialized expertise and on the other hand strive for a managerial position.
