Fit for Industrie 4.0. – a new undergraduate Bachelor-Program Industrial Engineering International
A new era has dawned in the international business world - Industry 4.0 - also known as the 4th Industrial Revolution. This is characterized by the real-time digital networking of suppliers, producers and customers along the value chains and business models. This means, among other things, the introduction of virtual planning and production systems and their digital networking, which represents a major challenge for German companies. In order to master these challenges, especially in an international environment, but also to take advantage of the associated opportunities, companies need widely trained engineers who can implement their know-how in English. They should be able to use the associated new methods, modelling tools, technologies and processes for the development of new, complex and innovative smart products and smart processes (smart factory, predictive maintenance).
For this reason, the Bachelor's programme "Industrial Engineering and Management" provides an interdisciplinary education in the fields of economics and engineering in English. In addition to new products and processes, graduates should also be able to identify solutions for concrete practical problems at the interface between technology and business, analyse weak points and, with the help of optimised value creation networks, achieve efficiency gains for products, operational processes and services.
The implementation of Industry 4.0 in companies today usually takes place as projects in international teams. Therefore, contact and team skills, social competence and, in particular, the ability to work on concrete practical projects are promoted during training.
