Hof University grows to 4,000 students for the first time - New study programs meet with great interest
Hof University is starting the new winter semester 2022/23 with almost 1000 first-semester students, thus continuing its growth course. A total of around 4000 students are now enrolled at the Hof, Münchberg, Kronach and Selb campuses (plus 5%). This is the highest level since the university was founded. The growth stems primarily from international Master's programs, but also from innovative new Bachelor's programs.
"The demand for international and English-taught Master's programs remains high. Their attractiveness and the internationalization strategy of our university ensure that Hof University can continue its growth course despite some adverse conditions of the present and that we are at the threshold of 4,000 students for the first time. It is also gratifying to see how the newly structured and modular Bachelor's programs in particular are being accepted," said University President Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Jürgen Lehmann in a first reaction. This time, offers from the fields of computer science and engineering in particular met with great interest. In the latter, school graduates were able for the first time to put together a course of study tailored to their individual needs through a course generator, which nevertheless fulfills all the competencies of a modern and future-oriented education. "We have created a model here that has not only been very well received, but which can also serve as an example for other areas of our teaching," said the university president.
Newly structured introductory days at the start
The new students at Hof University are now welcomed to Hof as part of the introductory days and provided with a wide range of information about the university, subjects and campus. The program for the first-semester students was redesigned in advance, also under student leadership, putting the students at the center and intensifying the networking of the various student groups. In addition, the new students will be invited by the city of Hof to a welcome event at the Hof ice skating ring on October 6. During bus tours through the city, the freshmen will get to know their new place of study.
Smart Zavod: Hof founders take 2nd place in the startup competition at the Future Conference in Leipzig
Anton Yakhno and Oleksii Solntsev, Master Mechanical Engineering graduates from Hof University and founders of the startup Smart Zavod, took second place in the founder competition at the Future Conference in Leipzig. The two founders, who come from Ukraine, developed the prototype for a fully automated 3D printer with the help of Hof University's Kickstart startup program. The innovation here is that the printer can process up to 30 different materials and has up to eight tools that can be changed automatically.
With this development, they have already won several startup prizes, including first place at the Ukrainian Startup Fund (prize money $25,000). It also convinced the jury at the Future Conference in Leipzig, which is organized by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Anton and Oleksii were able to hold their own in the competition with a total of 13 teams from all over Germany. The two founders are currently applying for the EXIST start-up grant. The jury is expected to make its decision in the next few days. If they are successful, the team will receive around 100,000 euros in funding, which will allow them to focus completely on the further development of their idea for one year. We keep our fingers crossed. More information about Smart Zavod is available at www.smartzavod.com.

Hof University again receives system accreditation as the highest seal of quality for its teaching
In 2014, Hof University was the first Bavarian university to successfully complete the system accreditation process. This distinction has now been achieved once again. The seal confirms that it has a functioning quality management system, which forms the basis for high-quality teaching.
Following the introduction of a central quality management system in 2009, Hof University underwent the system accreditation process at the Accreditation, Certification and Quality Assurance Institute (ACQUIN e.V.) for the first time in 2014. After the amendment of the Model Law Ordinance and the Bavarian Study Accreditation Ordinance in 2018, the inspections and expert rounds with external experts were scheduled in 2019 and then delayed by Corona until 2022. This involved numerous members of the university from university management, faculties, various departments and students. Subsequently, the quality management system was evaluated by the Accreditation Council. With a decision dated 22.09.2022, Hof University has now been "granted accreditation of the quality management system of Hof University of Applied Sciences" by the Accreditation Council.
"With the re-system accreditation, the autonomy of our university in study and teaching is further strengthened. This means that we do not have to have our bachelor's and master's degree programs accredited individually by an external agency at regular intervals, but can accredit them ourselves. This gives us a certain degree of independence in the design of our quality assurance system. The quality seal makes the university attractive not only to our national students, but also to international students in particular, which is in line with the internationalization strategy anchored in our mission statement," said university president Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Jürgen Lehmann. "Many thanks to all colleagues and employees, especially from quality management, who actively supported the procedure and contributed to its success," adds Prof. Dr. Dietmar Wolff, Vice President Teaching at Hof University.
About the system accreditation
The subject of the system accreditation is the internal quality assurance system of the university. A positive system accreditation certifies to the university that its quality management system is suitable to guarantee the achievement of the qualification goals and the quality standards of its study programs. The requirements for system accreditation are based on the Model Legal Ordinance of the Accreditation Council and the Bavarian Study Accreditation Ordinance. Study programs that are established according to the criteria of the system-accredited quality management system or already meet these criteria after review by internal accreditation procedures are then accredited.
Hof University inaugurates satellite center at Vishwakarma University in Pune
Last week, Hof University and India's Vishwakarma University (VU) inaugurated their joint cooperation office at the VU campus in Pune in the presence of Achim Fabig, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Mumbai. University President Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Jürgen Lehmann also traveled to India for the ceremony. Jürgen Lehmann made a special trip to India for the ceremony.
Hof University and Vishwakarma University have a long-standing partnership with a lively exchange of students and lecturers. Since January 2021, the two universities have also been cooperating to offer the Master's degree in Sustainability Management. The language of instruction is English and students spend one semester in Pune and two semesters in Hof. The students complete the Indo-German program with an internship and a Master's thesis on the topic of sustainability in the fourth semester. Graduates of the Sustainability Management program have a deep understanding of state-of-the-art business management techniques and the latest sustainable methods.
The inauguration of the cooperation office - known in India as the "Hof Satellite Center" - is thus another milestone in the cooperation between Hof University and Vishwakarma University. The office increases the visibility of Hof University in India and will serve as a starting point for joint initiatives of both universities in the future, such as the development of further cooperative study programs or the implementation of joint research projects. The cooperation office thus sets an example for Indo-German cooperation at the interface of education and industry. Based on the "Hof Satellite Center", a competence center is to be created in the coming years, from which students and researchers will benefit equally.
