Scholarships for Internship Abroad
If you are planning an internship in another European country, it is best to apply for the ERASMUS program. This page provides information on funding opportunities other than ERASMUS. You should apply for scholarships well in advance (usually 6 -12 months before the intended stay abroad).
PROMOS - Funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and Grants provided by the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts
Hof University grants travelling allowances or partial scholarships – provided that funds are granted to Hof University by DAAD (PROMOS) - and scholarships, provided by the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts, for following funding lines starting from 1 January 2020: Study programs, Internships, Specialized courses/ summer schools, Final thesis - all beyond EU/ERASMUS

IAESTE – internship
The International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE) is an international, politically neutral and independent organization which assists students in finding and financing an internship abroad. While the focus lies on technical subjects, students from other subject areas may also find suitable offers.
- Scholarships usually cover the standard living costs (e.g. EUR 650 in Western Europe)
- Combination with other scholarships possible
- Accommodation is usually provided
- Counseling provided by local IAESTE staff
- Support for travel expenses to non-European countries possible
The application deadline for internships in the summer semester (April to October) is 30 November each year. Please submit the application form to the Career Service. Short-term offers may be available all year. If you are interested in one of these offers please contact the Career Service.
"RISE (Research Internships in Science and Engineering) worldwide" is a scholarship program of the German Academic Exchange Service. Targeting bachelor’s students in the fields of sciences and engineering, it provides assistance with finding a position as research intern. Participants must be in the 5th semester or below.
The scholarship includes:
- EUR 500 – 1000, depending on the country of the internship
- Lump sum for travel expenses
- 6 – 12 weeks from June to October
- End of November until end of January
- Online via the applicants’ database
Application documents (in English or the language required in the call for application)
- Certified transcript of records
- Proof of language skills (e.g. DAAD certificate)
- Certified copy of school-leaving certificate qualifying you for higher education
- Letter of recommendation by a university teacher
- Letter of motivation describing your reasons for choosing this particular internship and your expectations

Centers for University Cooperation
BAYHOST is the Bavarian Academic Center for Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe. It offers scholarships for study stays in Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Serbia, and Slovakia.
The Bavarian University Center for Latin America promotes cooperation between Bavarian and Latin American universities. It provides information on universities and higher education systems in Latin America, as well as offering scholarships.
Grants under the Federal Education Assistance Act (BaföG)
If you intern abroad for a couple of months, you may apply for a grant under the Federal Education Assistance Act.
In order to be eligible for funding, the internship must be mandatory according to the exam regulations of your study program and last at least 12 weeks. In addition, applicants must have completed one year of studies before beginning the internship.
