Mail and Delivery Services

You can recognize German post offices and mailboxes by the yellow sign with a black post horn on it. The German postal service clears each mailbox individually. You can find the hours of clearance on a plate on each mailbox.

Letters within Germany reach the addressee normally within one day, letters within Europe take two to three days and world wide letters take three to eight days.

Delivery of Parcels

The most common way to send parcels is by the delivery service DHL. For national and international parcel prices, please check www.dhl.de.

If a parcel cannot be delivered to you because you are not at home, the mailman leaves a postcard in your mailbox to inform you about the failed delivery. Either the mailman will try to deliver the parcel the next day, or a post office will be given on the postcard where you can collect the parcel yourself. Please note that you need to bring the postcard and your passport to the post office, otherwise the clerks are not allowed to release the parcel.
