      Application for bachelor's programs

You plan to apply for a bachelor's (undergraduate) program?

Application for admission to a program on bachelor's level requires a check of your school education. Not all school leaving certificates (= higher education entrance qualification) qualify for a direct entry at German universities .

We recommend to check via the DAAD database if your school education allows you to directly apply for admission at Hof University or if you need to undergo preparatory studies (Studienkolleg). Check your higher education entrance qualification

You can also check if your school education allows a direct or subject-related entry at German Universities in the anabin database (only in German)

If you are qualified for direct admission at German universities, the next step is to submit your documents to uniassist for verification (see below) before applying via Primuss application portal.
If you are qualified for a direct, but subject-restricted admission to German universities, you can only be admitted to certain study programs without further preparatory studies.
If you do not qualify for admission to German universities, you must undergo further education before you can apply at Hof University. We do not offer any preparatory studies for admission. Information about Studienkollegs

Your certificates must be verified by uniassist prior to your application at Hof University. This applies to all bachelor's programs. You can apply for a preliminary documentation (VPD) year-round. We recommend submitting your documents to uniassist at least 4 weeks prior to the application start at Hof University.

      Application for master's programs

Looking to apply for a master's degree?

Application for admission to a program on master's level requires a previous academic degree on undergraduate level (usually bachelor's in the same field). Your previous degree must be equal to a German bachelor's degree. You can check if your bachelor's degree is recognized as equal to a German bachelor's via the anabin database (only in German).

For application for the following programs, your certificates must be verified by uniassist prior to your application at Hof University:

Uni-assist will check your bachelor's documents for eligibility and issue you a preliminary documentation (VPD). After you received the VPD, you apply at Hof University via our Primuss application portal and upload your VPD together with all other required documents. Application via uni-assist is possible year-round, but we recommend submitting your documents to uniassist at least 4 weeks prior to the application start at Hof University.
Exception: if you acquired your higher education entrance qualification or completed an entire bachelor's degree in an EU or EEA member state or in Switzerland, you do not need to apply via uni-assist.

For application to all other master's programs (including our Graduate School programs ), you can apply directly via Primuss application portal and upload your bachelor's documents. Hof University will check your documents directly on the base of the anabin evaluation.

Additionally, for application to some master's programs, you must have completed specific subjects in your bachelor's degree that prove you gained sufficient knowledge for studying a master's in this field. You can find out if this is required by checking the website of the individual degree program. Our degree programs

You have not yet received your bachelor's certificate by the application deadline?
You can still apply by uploading a transcript showing that you completed all modules. Please note that the decision on admission, however, lies with the examination board.

      Language skills

Applying for a program taught in English language

All applicants applying for a bachelor's or master's program must prove sufficient English language skills if their mother tongue (not second language) is not English.
In Primuss application portal, you must upload a proof of English language skills by an official test certificate: IELTS academic 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 90 (minimum scores accepted). In individual cases, other English test score documents (minimum level B2) can be accepted. This decision is up to the examination board when reviewing your application.
Attention: A "medium of instruction certificate" confirming that you completed an entire study program in English language is not sufficient for admission.

English taught programs (except for Software Engineering M.Eng.) also require a German language certificate minimum level A1 according to the CEFR.

Applying for a program taught in German language

All applicants applying for a bachelor's or master's program must prove sufficient German language skills if their mother tongue is not German.
If you acquired a German higher education entrance certification or completed an entire study program in German language, this serves as proof of your German skills. All other applicants must upload a proof of German language skills corresponding to a successfully completed level B2 (or higher) according to the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference ).

Certain German taught programs require you to submit English language skills as well (e.g. because modules are taught in English, case studies are conducted in English).

All language certificates must be issued by a certified institute and submitted within the application period. The displayed test result shall not be older than two years.
