The variety of textile materials and products is almost unlimited and their innovative development constantly demands new creative achievements. The bachelor's degree program in Textile Design at Hof University (Münchberg campus) is aimed at educating and empowering specialized designers to use their creative, technological and business-oriented knowledge and skills independently within their professional fields.

During the seven-semester Textile Design study program, students get acquainted with basic design processes and idea generation methods, textile technologies, CAD systems and an interdisciplinary understanding of design. The personal attention received by working in small groups promotes teamwork and responsibility, and fosters creativity and critical thinking necessary in area of design.

Studying the relationships of form and color, material and technology, society, economy and the market is an essential part of training, as well as developing systems of judgment and value standards and the capability for drawing and designing. The feasibility of a design into a marketable product is the measure of creative work. Essential parts of the course are displaying and presenting the products, as well as the documentation of their development process.

In the 6th and 7th semesters students can focus their studies, for example, on a combination of Textile Design combined with Fashion Design, by choosing special modules and projects.

Theory and practice are closely linked through an integrated internship semester as well as through practical projects and proximity to the laboratories of the Innovative Textiles study program. The comprehensive technical equipment of the university offers an ideal environment for experimental work and established the reputation of the Textile Design study program in Münchberg to be particularly practical.

The occupational areas include the classic development of apparel, home and contract textiles and, with an increasing tendency, technical issues such as automotive or aircraft design. In addition textile designers are active in all areas of surface and color design as in the paper and wallpaper industry, but also in fashion, architecture and interior design.

It is also common to work freelance or as a self-employed designer. There exist numerous opportunities for professional orientation for graduates.
